As people with I/DD live longer, significant aging and wellness considerations arise. This population often faces earlier onset of age-related conditions, such as dementia (particularly in Down syndrome), physical decline, and chronic health issues. Key considerations include maintaining health through proactive care, adapting housing for changing mobility needs, planning for retirement, managing medication, and addressing mental health. These needs require a comprehensive approach that merges traditional geriatric care with specialized support for I/DD, focused on maintaining independence and quality of life.

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the key aging and wellness considerations for providers caring for the I/DD population.
2. Recognize characteristics, signs, and symptoms associated with aging in I/DD and 5 ways to promote positive aging and wellness.
3. Discuss system and support challenges in the aging I/DD population.
